::Correos del Ecuador building in Riobamba A work that shows the architectural majesty of the city, and that when passing near it you can appreciate an aristocratic tint in its details that have survived to the present day. At the beginning of the 20th century, agricultural, commercial and industrial activities in Riobamba reached their stage of splendor. In 1923 the Chimborazo Banking Society commissioned the design and construction of the Riobamba Post Office building from the brothers Natale and Luca Tormen, Italian architects. Currently, Correos del Ecuador occupies this building that has become one of the most beautiful heritage jewels in the city. The post office boom was very important between the 50s and 70s of the 20th century; It was a Riobambeña tradition to go to this place to post or receive letters. Famous were the days of the post office, full of anecdotes and good times for Riobambeña society. It is the starting point for a tour of traditional ice cream parlors in the city: Helados de Paila de la Merced, where the traditional ice creams made in a pan that rests on an ice basket and the Chocolate ice creams, made of milk cream and covered with a chocolate coating.
